Accessing Email

Webmail

The easiest way to send and receive email is through webmail. Simply login at your custom webmail site:

http://webmail.yourdomain.com

The first time you login, you may want to adjust a few settings:

  • Select the link to SETTINGS at the bottom of the page
  • Fill in the FULL NAME field
  • If you want to save a copy of the emails you send via webmail, set the "Default Save to Sent folder on message send" option to "On"
  • Set your TIME ZONE
  • Click the SAVE button

To mark messages as spam, simply click the Spam icon and the spam will be moved to the Spam folder. Every night the system scans the messages in the Spam folder to learn what you consider to be spam. Over time it will be able to move more messages to the Spam folder automatically.

Note that messages will be saved in the Spam folder for 15 days; you may want to check it periodically to make sure there are no valid messages there.

IMAP

If you prefer to use a client program such as Outlook Express, we recommend that you connect in IMAP mode. In this mode, all of your email is stored on the server. It has several advantages over POP:

  • You can access all of your email from multiple computers
  • You will be able to take advantage of our server-based Spam filter, described above

There are also a few potential downsides:

  • You have to be connected to the internet to read your mail
  • You may run into the 500 MB limit for email, shared by all the accounts in yourdomain.com
  • Some programs (like Outlook Express) can't run filters on IMAP-based email

POP

You can also access your email using POP, but there will be no way for you to move mail into the Spam folder. This means you will not be able to take advantage of the learning features in our server-based Spam filter.

Settings

Incoming Mail Server (POP or IMAP):

Server name: mail.yourdomain.com
Account name: user@yourdomain.com

IMAP-specific settings:

Root folder path: Inbox
Sent Items path: Sent
Drafts path: Saved

Outgoing mail Server (SMTP):

Server name: mail.yourdomain.com
Requires Authentication - uses your email username and password

Step-by-step instructions for specific clients

Common Issues

Unable to send email, error message is "Relaying denied. Proper authentication required"

You need to setup your email client to use authentication when sending email

Unable to send email, error message is "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection"

Your ISP is blocking port 25, which is used to send email. You have two options:

  • Ask your ISP to unblock port 25
  • Send mail using your ISP's mail servers instead of ours
