Configuring Thunderbird 1.02
Thunderbird is an excellent open source mail reader that has built-in Spam tools
which compliment the Spam filters we run on the server.
First, Download Thunderbird
- Select TOOLS -> ACCOUNT SETTINGS
- Press ADD ACCOUNT
- Select EMAIL ACCOUNT <NEXT>
- Enter your name "First Last", and email address "name@yourDomain.com"
- Select POP or IMAP per the discussion on this page
- Set the "Incoming Server" to "mail.yourDomain.com" <NEXT>
- Set the "Incoming User Name" to "user@yourDomain.com" <NEXT>
- Press <NEXT>, <FINISH>
- If you are setting up an IMAP account:
- Select the new account from the list
- Select the SERVER SETTINGS for this account
- Click the ADVANCED ACCOUNT SETTINGS button
- Select the IMAP tab
- Set the "Imap Server Directory" to "Inbox"
- Press <OK>
- Select the OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP) account
- Set the "Server Name" to "mail.yourDomain.com"
- Put a checkmark by "Use name and password"
- Set the "User Name" to "user@yourDomain.com"
- Press <OK>
- If you are setting up an IMAP account:
- Right-click on the Account name and choose SUBSCRIBE
- Click the plus sign next to INBOX
- Put a checkmark next to all the accounts <OK>
- Select TOOLS -> ACCOUNT SETTINGS
- Select COPIES AND FOLDERS under the new account
- Set KEEP MESSAGE DRAFTS IN -> OTHER -> ACCOUNT NAME -> INBOX -> SAVED
- Press <OK>
- Press <OK>
To setup the Junk Mail filters
- Select TOOLS -> JUNK MAIL CONTROLS
- Select the appropriate account name
- Set MOVE INCOMING MESSAGES DETERMINED TO BE JUNK MAIL TO -> OTHER -> ACCOUNT NAME -> INBOX -> SPAM
- Press <OK>
